A Very “me” Post

June 23, 2009

The past few days have been a blur. I’ve been working non-stop, assisting for four 13 hour days straight on a beauty shoot for the studio. We are all completely wiped out…BUT the results seem to be paying off. I believe Andrew got some amazing shots and I learned a TON of valuable knowledge about lighting.

As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been hosting quite a few people the past month in my apartment. It’s all been great, but my running schedule and eating habits (uhhh and wallet) definitely suffered. Finally though, I have a night alllllllll to myself tonight! I haven’t been this excited for chill time in a lonnnng time. I’m leaving work early to start my summer shopping for my upcoming Canoe trip in Wisconsin, then off to Yoga To The People for a PAY-WHAT-YOU-WANT yoga class, then buying a goldfish to add to my big flower pot where I’m growing lily pads, home to pick back up on my running schedule, then cooking myself a delicious vegitarian dinner, then cleaning the patui outta my apartment. It sounds like a perfect night to me!

Speaking of my big flower pot where I’m growing, yes, lily pads, my garden has really taken off thanks to all this NY rain! My forget-me-nots have sprouted and are looking precious, however my pansies are really taking over the pot. Thank goodness my mom will be here this weekend, yes my mamma is coming to finally visit me in NYC, to give me some more pointers on how to grow flowers. She’s an expert.

I’m also in the market for a puppy! After a long two years of dealing with the Champion situation, I finally feel ready to get a new dog of my own. I debated back and forth on whether or not I should suck it up and go for the small dog look, even though I’m not a fan, just so I can easily tote him/her around with me…..however, I had to stay true. Big dogs, all day. So I have my heart set on a Saint Bernard or Bernise Mountain dog. I’m still going to try to go through a shelter or pound…I had such a great experience with my last pound puppy. But, please, keep your eyes and ears open for me!

Speaking of pups, this Thursday MRI will be doing yet another PhotoBooth for a Project Pet, which is an organization that searches for REAL no kill shelters and helps fund them. If you’re in the NY area, please come out and support the puppy dogs!

So in my last post, I promised to post some of the shots I’ve been working on.  Here is a promo shot for a new and upcoming play (sorry, no links yet!) called Fringe…

October and Photo Booths

October 6, 2008

October was quite a month for me…by far, my favorite. I was able to enjoy the brief Autumn in New York and enjoy the few trees that changed their colors as well as spend ample amount of time in Kentucky to enjoy the abundance of beautiful trees there.

I started out the month by celebrating the birthday of one of my closest friends, Amanda. Amanda was the darling who took me under wing when I first moved to New York City and was my first roommate and has basically introduced me to every friend I now have in NY.

Then, I was able to celebrate the tri-fecta of a birthday of my love, Ryan. His birthday should have gone down in history…complete with a home cooked steak dinner, presents for seven days, ghetto limo, friends and drinks, and a surprise party I put together for him! That was my favorite part!

I had the privelege this month of also shooting the long awaited wedding of Ashley and Gene! My good friend Jenny from NY flew home with me to assist and see my beautiful home. Stay tuned for shots from the wedding! I will be posting them tomorrow. Ashley was one of my most beautiful brides and the couple was a pleasure to work with.

While being home for the wedding, I was able to join all my best friends in a trip to Huber’s Farm to pick pumpkins! This is definitly one of my most favorite things to do this time of year. Here’s a tiny thumbnail of us in the pumpkin patch…

This month was also the New York City CMJ festival…which means one whole week of constant music flowing out of every single venue across the island and spilling over into Williamsburg. The week wore Ryan and me out, but we saw some great bands. If you check out his blog, he goes into a great re cap of the week and the overload of new music we heard. In the meantime, check out Shugo Tokumaru. I must add that I also got into a fist fight at one of the shows…for a good cause. My mamma was proud. Ryan and I hopped into a photo booth prior to my beat down…

Then there was Halloween and Holly and Dan’s Halloween Wedding extravaganza! What an event…it even made the news! Ryan got to come home to Kentucky with me this time to help assist and complete our costume of Bonnie and Clyde. (We were precious!) Holly and Dan got married in the breath taking cemetery Cave Hill. I will be posting some CRAZY photos from their wedding day of their zombie groomsmen and the Gothic queen bride. I had a blast shooting this wedding and as a wedding favor to their guests, they set up a photo booth! Ryan and I had too much fun with this! (we love photo booths)

Finally, I must add, although this technically did not take place in the month of October, I was very very proud to be a part of our Presidential Election yesterday. No matter who you voted for, this election has just made history and I must say, has been quite an emotional one for me. I am overwhelmed with hope and excitement to see our country take such a turn and move beyond racial boundaries and open our minds to new beginnings.  I anxiously await what Obama can bring to our Nation. I even actually feel, for the first time in a long long time, proud to be an American.

the human problem

July 21, 2008

Saw these guys, The Human Problem, the other day at The Delancy, in the lower east side.

Ryan, the singer, a friend of my boy Ryan, brought free pizza for everyone…that was a huge plus. I snapped a few shots but the basement part of The Delancy, where the shows are held, is pretty dark. I had a tough time shooting and am still trying to figure out new ways of shooting in incredibly low light…

the canon logic

July 20, 2008

About a year ago, my pal Amanda introduced me to an amazing dancey-feel-great band The Canon Logic. Since then, we have gone on to become good friends with the lovely fellas who reside in WIlliamsburg Brooklyn. And just the other night, I went to hang and shoot some photos of them at the Williamsburg Fair.If you haven’t heard them already, give these guys a chance!
