A Very “me” Post

June 23, 2009

The past few days have been a blur. I’ve been working non-stop, assisting for four 13 hour days straight on a beauty shoot for the studio. We are all completely wiped out…BUT the results seem to be paying off. I believe Andrew got some amazing shots and I learned a TON of valuable knowledge about lighting.

As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been hosting quite a few people the past month in my apartment. It’s all been great, but my running schedule and eating habits (uhhh and wallet) definitely suffered. Finally though, I have a night alllllllll to myself tonight! I haven’t been this excited for chill time in a lonnnng time. I’m leaving work early to start my summer shopping for my upcoming Canoe trip in Wisconsin, then off to Yoga To The People for a PAY-WHAT-YOU-WANT yoga class, then buying a goldfish to add to my big flower pot where I’m growing lily pads, home to pick back up on my running schedule, then cooking myself a delicious vegitarian dinner, then cleaning the patui outta my apartment. It sounds like a perfect night to me!

Speaking of my big flower pot where I’m growing, yes, lily pads, my garden has really taken off thanks to all this NY rain! My forget-me-nots have sprouted and are looking precious, however my pansies are really taking over the pot. Thank goodness my mom will be here this weekend, yes my mamma is coming to finally visit me in NYC, to give me some more pointers on how to grow flowers. She’s an expert.

I’m also in the market for a puppy! After a long two years of dealing with the Champion situation, I finally feel ready to get a new dog of my own. I debated back and forth on whether or not I should suck it up and go for the small dog look, even though I’m not a fan, just so I can easily tote him/her around with me…..however, I had to stay true. Big dogs, all day. So I have my heart set on a Saint Bernard or Bernise Mountain dog. I’m still going to try to go through a shelter or pound…I had such a great experience with my last pound puppy. But, please, keep your eyes and ears open for me!

Speaking of pups, this Thursday MRI will be doing yet another PhotoBooth for a Project Pet, which is an organization that searches for REAL no kill shelters and helps fund them. If you’re in the NY area, please come out and support the puppy dogs!

M-R-I on the Radio!

November 22, 2008

A while back, I made a huge post about MRI (Michelle and Ryan Illuminations)….our lightpainting work that we have been doing for almost two years now. A couple months ago, we were featured in quite a few online blogs, you can read the articles on the link above. One of the blogs, WebUrbanist, contacted us last week and decided they wanted to do an artist feature on us! Ryan and I spent all last night preparing our interview and coming up with some new ideas.

On top of WebUrbanist, NPR (National Public Radio) contacted us as well, telling us that they thought our work was really compelling and wanted to do an interview with us as well as make a short video of us doing our work for their website for Science Friday! We are so psyched! Our NPR shoot is going to be the weekend after Thanksgiving and the WebUrbanist feature should be running soon! Keep checking here for updates on when and where we are going to be featured!

Stricola Gallery Opening Success!

November 15, 2008

Stephanie Tricola, director and gallerista of Stricola Contemporary Gallery hosted it’s grand opening Wednesday night featuring artist Mark Gagnon and I had the privilege of photographing the event. The opening was one of the most successful ones I have ever been to with around 700 guests dropping in to check out the art work and beautiful space located in SoHo’s prime hot spot for art.  Mark’s show, “The History We Are Given” featured several “portrait” paintings  of New York City’s monuments and sculptures that are so often over looked by the hoards of pedestrians that are busy about their day. He also has another series of work called, “An Illustrated History of Fashion” on display in the windows of Bergdorfs in Midtown. His show at Stricola will be running until December 10th so be sure to come down and check out the bright and colorful art work. Also, check out the Stricola Blog I’ve been working on for updates and more photos!

Stricola Gallery Opening TONIGHT!

November 12, 2008

blog4

My friend Stephanie has long been awaiting the opening of her Contemporary Art Gallery Stricola and finally, tonight is the night! The reception is from 6-9pm at 3 Wooster St. in Soho. Come out!

I have been doing work with Stephanie in preparation for her opening and I am also going to be working at the gallery on Saturdays and Sundays as a sitter. I’m pretty excited! You can check out Mark Gagnon’s paintings which will be on display from now until December. I have also been working with him, an amazing artist, and photographing his paintings for websites and the gallery (on the flyer).

In other news, I had the opportunity to do a photo shoot for Gifts.com yesterday. I did personality shots of the “gift gurus”. My good friend Sarah got me the gig after only working there for a week! The site seems really interesting and with the holidays coming up is a great place to go and get some unique gifts ideas for the ones you love! Here are  a couple of the guru’s I photographed yesterday!
